Fun shoots in the Maldives

Article

Mat Video
Tourist video clip of seaplane landing in Maldives. Click to Play

One of the most challenging shoots for Sakis Papadopoulos was when he was hired to shoot the entire fleet of Maldivian Air Taxi.

"The trick was to find a unique location, paradisiacal but still safe for the seaplanes to land. I finally spotted a tiny little gorgeous island with a huge sandbank." explains Sakis.

Next trick was to get the entire fleet to take time off from transfering all the guests! MAT hired another seaplane company for the time it took to orchestrate the shoot. Not to mention they needed someone to fly Sakis around in order to do the shoot itself!

"It was time to plan the exact schedule of the shooting. Due to the low and high tides, wind and clouds, we had to be extremely precise. Everything had to be perfectly set up."

During the shoot itself stress was running high, and time was ticking. The day was perfect and eventually one by one, each MAT seaplane landed and parked on the sandbank.

"It was fantastic to see all these red seaplanes arriving in the turquoise lagoon. The sandbank was rapidly becoming a dreamy airport."

Sakis

The result of the photo shoot is the image you see here. To this day, some people insist Sakis used a photo editing program to obtain this result. Too bad Sakis forgot to get a photo of himself while he did the shoot!

What do you think? Real photo shoot, or photoshop trickery :). To add your comment - go ahead and click here

New Manager at Komandoo Maldive Resort

Mathilde Jeambrun was recently appointed as the Resort Operations Manager

Resort News

Dear Colleagues and Partners,

It gives me immense pleasure to greet you for the season as we move into the most busy months of the year in the Maldivian tourism industry.

This is the right moment for me to introduce Mathilde Jeambrun as the Resort Operations Manager of Komandoo Maldive Island Resort.  All of you know her already when she was holding the portfolio of Front Office Manager in Kuredu Island Resort.  Having been a part of our team for the past one year she has developed herself to be able to take up this vital role.

Mathilde comes with an impressive backdrop of front of the house exposures in various hotels and resorts in different countries.  This has given her the right image and strength to take up this position.  Our owners, my team and I have total confidence in her that she will stand up to the challenges of this role in a very befitting manner.

Therefore please join with me to congratulate Mathilde Jeambrun on her assuming the role of the Resort Operations Manager for Komandoo Maldive Island Resort and wish her our complete support and best wishes.

I also wish to thank you, ladies and gentlemen, for your solidarity that we enjoyed during the entire period between the exit of the previous Resort Manager, and the entry of Mathilde Jeambrun.

with distinguished regards,
Stefan O. Huemer
Regional General Manager & Island Chief

Spot Maldives wishes a Happy Eid!

Happy Eid
Happy Eid!

Eid al-Adha is a religious festival celebrated by Muslims worldwide as a commemoration of Ibrahim's (Abraham's) willingness to sacrifice his son Ismael for Allah. It is one of two Eid festivals that Muslims celebrate. Like Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha begins with a short prayer followed by a sermon. It is also called the bigger Eid because it lasts a day longer than Eid al-Fitr.

Eid al-Adha is four days long and starts on the 10th day of the month of Dhul Hijja of the lunar Islamic calendar. This is the day after the pilgrims in Hajj, the annual pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia by Muslims worldwide, descend from Mount Arafat. It happens to be approximately 70 days after the end of the month of Ramadan.

Spot Maldives wishes all our clients, faithful readers all their families a happy Eid!
